Automatic Breakout Unit for Flush Drill Pipe
Operating Instructions: Automatic Breakout Unit for Flush Drill Pipe
The Automatic Breakout for Flush Drill Pipe is used when the desired depth has been reached in the drilling of a well to provide a backup when breaking out the drill pipe without the use of wrenches.
In operation the Automatic Breakout (ABO) Unit operates in the following sequence:
- Once the desired depth has been reached, pick up and set the slips on the first joint.
- Break-out this connection, but do not spin fully out of the connection.
- Activate the ABO Unit, allowing the Back-off Barrel to lower.
- Begin slow rotation to the right, this will allow the Lock Ring to align with the flats and the Back-off Barrel will drop.
- Pull up the next joint, set the slips, break, and spin out first joint.
- Lower the drill pipe to the stand or floor, release the ABO Unit, and spin out the first joint.
- Lower head to make up the next joint.
- Spin into this connection, but do not torque up connection.
- Activate the ABO Unit and repeat Steps 2-9.
