Secoroc Down the Hole Equipment
Rock Drilling Tools

Always Drill for Gold |
As ever more drillers are discovering, DTH offers a flexibility and profit potential that can't be ignored. Optimized for hole diameters between 90 mm and 254 mm, the DTH drilling method provides unrivalled precision. So if you're currently drilling or planning to drill holes of this size you might want to check out what DTH in general -- and Atlas Copco Secoroc in particular -- can offer. |

Why DTH drilling?
Quality holes. In the 110-171 mm range, DTH is the dominant drilling method today. Superb hole straightness (within 1% deviation without guiding equipment); good hole cleaning; smooth, even walls for easy charging of explosives; deep hole drilling capacity; and efficient energy transmission are benefits that have effectively sidelined other drilling techniques.
Greater flexibility. Employing the DTH method, it's easy to optimize the layout of a quarry or open pit mine. That's why this technique is rapidly replacing not only traditional rotary units in blast-hole drilling, but also top-hammers in delivering perfect quality holes. After all, why change rig when all you need to do is change the size of your hammer!
In addition, DTH lends itself superbly to numerous other applications, including water well drilling, exploration, foundation, anchoring, and geothermal holes.
Unbeatable productivity...
The unbeatable performance of Secoroc COP DTH hammers is down to innovation. Numerous novel features, including our patented air cushion, combine for superior penetration and modest air/fuel consumption. Our hammers are complemented by a full range of Premium Plus DTH bits, featuring new head designs for maximum efficiency. Productivity, however, isn't just gauged by how far you can drill in a day. It's also measured by how long your equipment lasts -- a fact we've given a great deal of thought to.
 |

|
...and equally unbeatable back-up
We provide a comprehensive selection of tools to help your equipment maintain its performance. For a start there's Secoroc Grind Matic, the world's most extensive range of grinding equipment, designed to ensure your bits remain on the cutting edge. Then there are our robust DTH tubes, guaranteeing a trouble-free drilling cycle. There's also Secoroc COP backhammers, which allow you to extract equipment that might otherwise be lost.
These products all add up to the most productive package in DTH drilling history. We call it Lifecycle Penetration Rate.
Welcome to the world of Secoroc. |

|
A Close Look at the World's Best DTH Equipment |
Secoroc COP hammers enjoy an unparalleled reputation for productivity and the lowest cost per meter drilled. A host of fresh design features combine to utilize the air for superior penetration and maximum efficiency. Our 6" hammer is a good example, designed as it is to meet the exacting demands of DTH drillers the world over. |

Handling pressure
Drilling means subjecting your equipment to pressure. And the leap to today's 25 bar high-pressure standard has been tough. Compression rings and buffers are especially vulnerable. Not so for COP 64 Gold. Equipped with a steel disc spring and new lower buffer, operating pressure enjoys a market high of 30 bar.
Blowing the problem away
A large influx of water creates back pressure in the hole. This can have a dampening effect on productivity -- but not if you use COP 64 Gold. This hammer continues to work efficiently even under back pressure, maintaining performance all the way down the hole.
A further productivity boost is provided by a new feature which permits you to change the air flow through the hammer by adjusting the length of the foot valve. We provide a user-friendly tool for the job; you'll complete the adjustment in a matter of minutes.
Outlasting the competition
When it comes to reliability, COP 64 Gold is rapidly becoming the industry benchmark. It's new cylinder, made of special high strength steel, is ideal for abrasive applications. Furthermore, the 12-spline bit design keeps spline wear to a minimum. Ultimately, you're looking at a considerably longer service life compared to competing equipment.

1 - New simple and functionally reliable check valve.
2 - New compression ring.
3 - New control tube.
4 - Milled slots for improved piston guidance.
5 - 12-spline shank.
6 - Reliable foot valve design.
7 - Patented pentagonal piston design.
8 - New cylinder with wear-resistant steel.
9 - Flexible control tube suspension with new buffer ring. |

Smooth performer
Our new hammer has a built-in shock absorber, preventing devastating recoils in the drill string and severe damage to the mast structure and rotation unit. The spin-off effect is a boost in productivity -- less maintenance means higher availability and far more meters drilled.
Efficiency by design
On COP 64 Gold, we've given the piston a pentagon shape. That, combined with milled air slots in the cylinder, greatly enhances piston guidance. And, of course, less internal wear means sustained efficiency and productivity throughout the life of the hammer.
Easy to change bits
The unique combination of different threads in the top subs and chucks ensures swift and easy bit changes. In fact, because you can break the chuck thread open by hammering against the rock or a block of wood, it'll never take you longer than a few minutes. Another productivity booster!
Choosing the Right Hammer

Choosing which hammer to use is largely determined by hole size and the type of formation you're working in. Ideally, the size of the hammer should match the required hole dimension as closely as possible -- leaving just enough space for cuttings to evacuate the hole.
Standard design
Our Standard hammer is ideal for water well drilling, blast hole drilling, and civil engineering projects.
HD design
Designed for abrasive and demanding applications, our Heavy Duty hammer features a larger overall diameter, in turn allowing for thicker walls and, ultimately, a longer service life. What's more, it's equipped with reversing back-out buttons, not only protecting the top sub from wear as it retreats from a collapsed hole, but also helping to free the hammer as it's being pulled out.

Air Consumption
Invest One,
Get Five Back |
Gas prices are rising. That's why it's crucial to drill with maximum fuel efficiency. Thanks to the smart design of our hammers, you'll find the slightly higher costs you incur to make compressed air are more than compensated by the five-fold payback in increased productivity. We'll say it again: Invest one, get five back. |

Full service on-site in just 30 minutes
Regular service intervals are essential to ensure high availability and low fuel consumption. To this end, we provide a combined field service breakout bench, allowing you to break and service the hammer in the same vice. No special tools are required once the top sub and chuck threads have been loosened. The bench can handle hammer sizes from 3" up to 8". |

Breakout Bench |
Worn hammer? Rejuvenate it with our Economy Kit
Traditionally, a DTH hammer has to be replaced when it is either worn out externally or the penetration rate has dropped by 20% or more. That's not the case with an Atlas Copco Secoroc hammer. With our Economy Kit -- consisting of top sub, cylinder, and chuck -- you can readily replace worn components. This way you'll be able to rebuild your hammer at least once -- with no drop in performance -- before it's time to invest in a new one. |

SECOROC COP backhammers -- saving time and equipment
Our COP Backhammer has been built with one purpose in mind: To save you time and money if your equipment's stuck in a hole.
The backhammer can be fitted in a suitable tube joint between the drill support and the rotation head, providing an effective combination of backward hammering and vibrations.
COP backhammers are tough and dependable. They come in just three parts with a plastic cover. Maintenance consists only of keeping it clean and protecting the connections when the unit is not in use. The plastic cover acts as a muffler in addition to diverting the discharged air.

SECOROC Drill Tubes -- Part of a Productive Package
|
Though their importance is often underestimated, tubes play an important role in DTH drilling -- regardless of application, rock type, hole depth, or drill rig. The key features of a high quality DTH tube are durability, accuracy, and manageability. |

High quality tubing
Secoroc tubes are made from cold drawn tubing, providing a superior surface finish and tolerance compared to their hot rolled counterparts. Our solution drastically reduces the risk of scaling -- the cause of so many premature hammer failures.
No weak links
Traditionally, the threads and the joint between the tube and the end-pieces are vulnerable. To combat the problem, we've friction-welded the joints for maximum strength and heat-treated the end-pieces for optimal durability.
Never losing the thread
Heat-treating the threads ensures not only a long service life, but also simplifies joining and breaking -- thereby cutting cycle time. To meet varying demands, we provide a selection of API threads. For applications where foam injection is used, we recommend the IF thread.
Naturally, we also offer a wide range of subs and crossovers -- all made of high quality steel and heat-treated in the same way as tube end-pieces.

SECOROC Premium Plus -- That Bit More Productive |
If bit quality isn't up to scratch, it will sooner or later affect rig availability and production capacity. To find just the right balance between penetration rate and bit life, you may have to try a great many bit designs first. If you have any questions about bit performance, don't hesitate to talk to your local Atlas Copco representative. |

A benchmark solution
When our Premium bits were first introduced they were the benchmark by which all other DTH bits were measured. So when we started work on the next generation, the goals were, to put it mildly, ambitious.
Like their forerunners, Atlas Copco Secoroc's new Premium Plus DTH bits address the age-old problems of shanking and chunking. After extensive field tests in tough conditions, we can report a 10-13% increase in bit life--even up to 50% in some formations! Add to this a 5% increase in penetration rate, and we're confident our new range offers unbeatable value.
Tough bits for a tough life
The new Premium Plus design provides novel refinements such as a tougher steel grade for improved fatigue properties. Furthermore, we've not only repositioned the buttons for faster penetration, but also designed them to protrude more -- for improved cuttings removal, less secondary crushing, and easier bit grinding. And to reduce the risk of jamming in the hole, the taper on the bit head is shorter with a larger clearing. We can safely say that shanking and chunking are now so uncommon as to be considered rarities.
Flat front HD
Flat front with large spherical buttons for hard and abrasive formations. Features front flushing grooves for efficient cuttings removal.
SpeedBit
Flat front with spherical gauge buttons and ballistic center buttons. For high penetration in medium hard to hard abrasive formations. The productivity booster!
Bit Designs

*Double gauge row
Premium Plus bit range

Convex front/ballistic buttons
Convex front with large cutting grooves plus ballistic gauge and center buttons. Ideal in soft to medium hard non-abrasive formations. The bit is designed for maximum penetration rate. Can even be used in hard abrasive formations if high penetration rate is called for.
Concave front design
Concave front with spherical buttons. Perfect choice for medium hard to hard, less abrasive fractured formations. Provides excellent control over hole deviation.
Concave DGR front design
Concave front with double overlapping gauge rows of spherical buttons. Only available for 8" bits and larger. A reinforced gauge provides superior protection in medium hard to hard, abrasive, and fractured formations.
How to Stay on the Cutting Edge |
To extract full capacity from your hammer, and squeeze the maximum number of meters from each bit, regular grinding is a must. Bear in mind that once the buttons are worse to a third of their diameter, wear accelerates dramatically and penetration rate suffers accordingly. Ultimately, you risk damaging the buttons beyond repair. The remedy? Grind in time. |
